3D-ConTourNet

3D-ConTourNet is a COST Action which undertakes coordinated research collaboration, at European level, in 3D multimedia creation, encoding, delivery and reception of services and applications over future networking technologies. A scientific framework is devised to integrate the main elements of the delivery chain, such as 3D content creation and encoding evolution, transmission across heterogeneous networks and user consumption, taking perceived quality as an overall key performance factor

 

DIOGENES

The DIOGENES project aims to modify, enhance and migrate existing media infrastructures and business models towards a cloud-oriented media-aware model. DIOGENES will design and develop Cloud-based multi-tier service platform that is capable to manage Media Real-Time Applications and Services through Cloud, using xaaS (IaaS, SaaS and NaaS) paradigm across heterogeneous devices. The Cloud Multi-tier platform provided by DIOGENES, will use virtualizations tools for media applications and services so that network and media resources are jointly optimised.DIOGENES is a cloud-based media infrastructure capable to support all the functionalities associated with the entire value chain from the capturing, to the processing and content delivery by improving simplicity to optimise media-related and network infrastructure.

 

ARTEMIS

Integrated Framework for the Modeling, Measurement and Management of QoE for Media Applications in Future Internet(ARTEMIS): Research Project funded by Greek Scholar Foundation (IKY)
The ARTEMIS project aims to design, develop, implement and evaluate of an integrated framework, for modeling, measurement and management of the quality of experience for networked multimedia services in Future Internet. This framework consists of three pilars:
  • Effective use of data repositories (data warehouses) for the collection and knowledge management (concerning the parameters that determine the quality of user experience).
  • Assess the multimedia quality in users related to heterogeneous networks (WiFi, 3G, LTE,, xDSL, etc) and use preventive decisions to optimize user experience.
  • Optimize the transmission of multimedia services and applications using innovative mechanisms to adapt the transmission rate of data flows, based on the latest multimedia transmission standards (example: HTTP dynamic adaptive streaming- DASH)

 

Completed Projects

Qualinet

Qualinet aims at extending the notion of network-centric Quality of Service (QoS) in multimedia systems, by relying on the concept of Quality of Experience (QoE). The main scientific objective is the development of methodologies for subjective and objective quality metrics taking into account current and new trends in multimedia communication systems as witnessed by the appearance of new types of content and interactions. A substantial scientific impact on fragmented efforts carried out in this field will be achieved by coordinating the research of European experts under the catalytic COST umbrella.
